Natural Tricks for Beating the Common Cold
Before I began my journey of going more natural, I never had much success with finding a solution to relieving the common cold. I would try all the cold medicines, cough syrups and any product that promised to give relief from those dreaded symptoms. I'm not saying I have a miracle solution but I will say I have had AMAZING results from these easy natural remedies that probably a lot of our grandmas used back in the day.
At first sign of a cold here's what I do...
*Mince 1 clove of garlic onto a spoon and drizzle honey on it until the garlic is completely covered...GULP it down. Do NOT try to chew it as it might cause gagging. :) This really kicks the cold in the booty! I recommend doing once or twice a day until the cold is gone.
*Put a dropper full of hydrogen peroxide in one ear and lay down on your side to let your ear absorb it. Let it sit anywhere from 5-20 minutes. Repeat in other ear. This is very soothing for your ears and throat. I also do this any time I get a migraine and it helps relieve some of the pain.
*Drink home made chicken broth. Shoot for 3 cups a day.
*Drink lots of other fluids. Peppermint tea can be soothing. I like to do a mixture of hot water, lemon juice and honey to soothe an itchy throat.
*Mix a few drops of lavender essential oil and eucalyptus essential oil with a teaspoon of coconut oil or olive oil and rub on your throat, behind and under your earlobes, swollen lymph glands, the bottoms of your feet and anywhere else you are feeling aches or pain . Do this at least a few times a day.
*Avoid all milk, sugar and bread products. These things produce phlegm.
*Use a vaporizer or humidifier.
*Take detox baths. I use a cup of epsom salts, 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar in nice hot water and sit in it until Im sweating. Use caution when getting out of the tub and drink plenty of water before and after your bath.
